Studio Manager Essentials
Operators learn to use PhotoRobot. Studio managers decide what PhotoRobot does for the business. This package teaches the second skill.
What you’ll learn
After completing the Studio Manager Essentials package and passing the certification exam, you will be able to:
- Pick the right operating mode for your studio (catalog throughput / editorial / mixed / service bureau) and align team expectations to it
- Stand up a KPI dashboard that catches problems before customer complaints — items/hour, edit-auto pass rate, rework rate, calibration drift events
- Design workspaces and presets that scale across multiple operators without silent drift — ownership, change control, canonical naming
- Plan capacity — calculate your studio’s throughput ceiling, identify utilization gaps, decide when to grow hardware vs. people vs. process
- Design operator handoffs with explicit contracts so errors surface at the boundary, not deep in the pipeline
- Audit single points of failure — what breaks the line, how to recover, when to escalate
- Recognize and address strategic mistakes before they erode output quality — preset drift, “fix-in-post” culture, shelf-without-audit, throughput-only KPI
- Operate the data side of the studio — how items flow out of CAPP to ERP / e-commerce / DAM systems, and how PhotoRobot fits into Industry 4.0 production lines
What’s included
The Studio Manager Essentials package contains 6 modules plus an end-of-package certification exam.
Shared foundation (3 modules — reused from Operator Standard)
A studio manager who doesn’t know what their operators are doing day-to-day is a manager their team can’t respect. The package opens with three core operator modules so you start on the same ground as your team.
- B01 — System Overview. What PhotoRobot is, the CAPP / Locator / hardware ecosystem, where the company came from. ~45 min.
- B05 — Workspace Configuration. The hardware-to-software binding that makes capture possible. ~60 min.
- B11 — Editing Images. Scopes + masks + Freemask + Chromakey + presets + shelves + the sub-60-second editing target. ~75 min.
If you have already passed Operator Standard, these three modules are review.
Management track (1 module live, 2 forthcoming)
The A-namespace covers content specifically for managers — strategic, organizational, decision-framework material that operators don’t necessarily need.
- A01 — Studio Strategy & Workflow Design. ✅ Live in v0.19.0. ~75 min. Operating modes, KPIs, workspace strategy, preset / shelf policy, capacity planning, handoff design, failure modes, strategic mistakes, 90-day assessment template.
- B22 — Item Export. ✅ Live in v0.21.0. ~60 min. How items flow out of CAPP — local vs. cloud export, file formats, filename templates, the saved template library, cloud-link lifecycle, when to graduate from manual export to API / DAM integrations.
- B26 — Industry 4.0 Readiness. ✅ Live in v0.22.0. ~75 min. 5-stage production line frame, bottleneck diagnosis (volume / operator / delivery), ERP / PIM / DAM ecosystem, phased industrialization roadmap, when NOT to industrialize, common failure patterns, 18-point readiness checklist.
Each module includes a textbook (reference reading), a workbook (exercises specifically designed as diagnostics for your actual studio, not abstract drills), and a knowledge check quiz. The shared modules also include the operator-facing workbooks; the management-track modules’ workbooks are framed for managerial decisions.
How the package is delivered
Three delivery formats:
Online
Self-paced, on this Academy site. Each module’s workbook is a real diagnostic for your studio — you’ll come out the other end with a documented operating mode, KPI baseline, workspace audit, and 90-day plan. Best for studio managers who can’t take a week off for in-person training.
At PhotoRobot studio
Group training in PhotoRobot’s own studio (Prague). 2 days, all live modules. Bring your studio’s actual data — KPI history, workspace inventory, problem cases — and work through it with a certified instructor and peers from other studios. Best for new studio managers in their first 90 days.
In your studio
PhotoRobot Certified Instructor travels to your site. 2 days, working directly with your team and your real CAPP installation. Best when the manager wants to align the team on strategic decisions in person, with the operators in the room.
Certification
After completing all modules, students take the PhotoRobot Studio Manager certification exam:
- 50 questions drawn from a pool weighted across the modules (A01 carries the highest weight at ~14 %; B26 ~10 %; B22 ~6 %; foundation modules ~5 % each)
- 70 % pass threshold (higher than Operator’s 65 % — managers held to a higher standard)
- Online with proctoring, or in-person at PhotoRobot studio
- Verifiable certificate — auto-generated PDF with QR code that resolves to a public verification page
- 2 years validity — refresh exam available before expiry to extend
- Scenario-heavy mix — most questions present a studio situation and ask for the best managerial response, not just definition recall
The Studio Manager cert exam pool is LIVE in v0.23.0 at /quiz/certifications/studio-manager.html — 50 weighted questions across all 6 modules, 70% pass threshold, 75 min time limit, 2-year validity.
Who should take it
The Studio Manager Essentials package is for:
- New studio managers in their first 6 months, especially those promoted from operator
- Owners of small / medium photo studios running PhotoRobot who want to formalize how their studio is run
- Senior operators on a management track preparing for promotion
- Operators in solo studios who effectively do both operator and manager work and want frameworks for the second half
- Procurement / operations leads at larger e-commerce or apparel companies evaluating PhotoRobot adoption — understanding the operational frame before signing the PO
It is not for:
- Daily operators with no management ambition (Operator Standard is the right entry point)
- Network specialists, hardware specialists, or integrators (separate Essentials packages for each)
- C-level executives wanting a 1-hour exec briefing (separate “PhotoRobot for Decision-Makers” content forthcoming)
Prerequisites
No formal prerequisites. However, completing the Operator Standard package first is strongly recommended. A studio manager who has not personally worked through operator content lacks credibility with their team and can’t ground-truth team feedback against firsthand experience.
If you’ve never touched a PhotoRobot system, you can take this package — but expect to spend extra time on the shared foundation modules and consider scheduling a hands-on session at PhotoRobot studio.
Enrollment
This package is sold through PhotoRobot sales. Customers receive a voucher code upon purchase that grants access to the Studio Manager Essentials package on this Academy site. Each voucher is single-use, per-student.
For pricing, group rates, or to schedule on-site training, contact PhotoRobot sales.
After certification
The Studio Manager certificate is the foundation for further specialization or for leadership progression. From here:
- Operator Standard if you didn’t take it first — credibility-builder with your team
- Network Specialist Essentials if your studio has complex networking and you want to handle infrastructure decisions
- Integrator Essentials if you’re integrating PhotoRobot with downstream ERP / e-commerce / DAM systems
- PhotoRobot Certified Instructor (CI) track — for managers who want to deliver Academy training at their own organization or to customer sites
Many of PhotoRobot’s strongest customer relationships are with studio managers who stack certifications over 2–3 years, becoming the in-house expert who can speak operator, manager, network, and integrator dialects fluently.
Module readiness
Tracking the current build state of each module in the package:
- ✅ B01 — System Overview (reused from Operator Standard)
